Fluid Cube

The river and the cube, as fundamental elements in the rise of ancient Iraqi civilisations, symbolise the innovative spirit that contributed to humanity’s earliest inventions. The architectural concept design process merges the fluidity of the river’s flow with the solidity of the cube, representing the essence of Mesopotamian cities, by allowing the smooth, dynamic movement of the river to intersect with the cube’s rigidity, contributing to the re-forming of the cube, by creating a seamless and well-defined cavity. This interaction symbolises the enduring resilience of Mesopotamian architecture, which adapted to external forces while maintaining its core identity. The resulting form not only captures the transformative impact of the river on the cube but also conveys the story of Mesopotamia’s ability to withstand and evolve with changing environments. This integration culminates in a pavilion that is both inviting and evocative, with its newly formed structure offering a warm, welcoming experience for visitors. The pavilion’s facades feature materials inspired by the white colour of the Mesopotamian rosette, symbolising purity, renewal, and strength, which align with themes of adaptability and resilience.
